Zagreb lawyer says they haven't discussed bail with Sanader

ZAGREB, Dec 22 (Hina) - Former Croatian Prime Minister Ivo Sanader and his defence lawyers from Zagreb have not discussed a possibility of proposing a bail for him so that he may be released from the extradition custody in Austria, and they have not discussed anything in connection with the Austrian process, according to lawyer Goran Suic.

"We did not discuss with our client bail or any proceedings in Austria as it is within the remit of his defence team in Vienna," the Zagreb lawyer Suic told Hina on Wednesday.

Suic declined to say whether Sanader would respond to a request that he be questioned via video link by the Carinthian regional parliamentary commission about the Hypo Bank case.

The hearing is scheduled for 1300 hrs Wednesday.

Suic said that Sanader had no objections to the condition of his detention in the Salzburg prison and that he felt well.

The Zagreb-based defence team visited Sanader in the prison on Tuesday.

It is unknown if, at a hearing scheduled for December 27, Sanader will oppose Croatia's request for his extradition.

Croatia has requested Sanader's extradition on suspicion of conspiracy in corruption involving the Fimi Media advertising firm and of abuse of office in unlawful operations involving the HEP power company and the Dioki petrochemical company. The national anti-corruption office USKOK has launched an investigation into Sanader, while a Zagreb County Court judge has set month-long detention for him.
