HSS chief says it is easy for Opposition to badmouth others

KALNIK, Nov 28 (Hina) - Responding to the criticism from the Opposition, Croatian Peasant Party (HSS) leader and Parliament Deputy Speaker Josip Friscic has said that it is easy to badmouth others while doing nothing else.

Addressing a convention of the HSS branch in Koprivnica-Krizevci county, which was held in the northern town of Kalnik on Saturday evening, Friscic criticised the Social Democratic Party, the strongest opposition party in the country, for sending messages how problems should be sold in Croatia although that party, which "has been running Zagreb for 11 years" has not done that job well, according to him.

Friscic was also against proposals that Croatia should call the International Monetary Fund.

In 2002, the IMF was called in, and we finally ended up with "torn pants", the head of the HSS, a junior partner in the ruling coalition, said adding that IMF would always order the sale of some of national wealth.

He went on to say that the agreement regulating the relations in the ruling coalition also provided for prevention of the sale of the national assets such as the Croatian Forests and the Croatian power supplier (HEP).

Two government ministers from the HSS ranks -- Bozidar Pankretic and Damir Bajs -- attended the convention in Kalnik.

The HSS will hold a convention on 18 December in Zagreb with its proposals for the equal development of all areas of Croatia on the agenda of that meeting.
