Trade union leader says Croatia should call IMF

SPLIT, Nov 10 (Hina) - The Croatian Trade Unions' Federation (HUS), Ozren Matijasevic, has said that the Croatian economy is about to collapse and therefore the International Monetary Fund should be called to help the country.

The economy is about to collapse only because the government is not implementing its measures, the trade union leader told a news conference in Split on Wednesday.

We must call the IMF as the government is neither capable nor prepared to carry out reforms, cut costs and impose the necessary taxation reforms, he said.

Matijasevic accused the cabinet led by Prime Minister Jadranka Kosor of avoiding cuts in public spending in order not to fall out of favour with the electorate.
