Croatian fishermen demand lower VAT and discussion on alarming situation in fisheries

POREC, Oct 23 (Hina) - Croatian fishermen, who held a two-day meeting in Porec, urged the authorities to define a specific price of fuel for the fishing sector that would not exceed four kuna per litre.

According to conclusions adopted at the Porec meeting on Saturday, fishermen insist on the abolishment of Value Added Tax on production material, as well as on the reduction of the VAT rate for sold fish to ten percent.

They also demand the reduction of other taxes and levies to make conditions in the Croatian fishing sector equal to those in the European Union.

The fishermen warned about "the alarming situation of the available fishing resources" and urged the agriculture ministry to convene a session of the National Fisheries Council on this topic.
