Court launches preliminary bankruptcy proceedings in Kamensko textile factory

ZAGREB, Sept 29 (Hina) - The Commercial Court in Zagreb has launched a preliminary bankruptcy procedure in the Kamensko textile industry and appointed a preliminary trustee in bankruptcy, regional coordinator for the textile trade union Zeljko Segina told Hina on Wednesday.

Trustee Zdravko Mitak is expected to establish if conditions have been created for bankruptcy proceedings in Kamensko. Kamensko employees, who went on strike this morning demanding the payment of late salaries or or the company's going into official receivership, will decide whether to end the strike after Mitak makes his decision, Segina said.

Kamensko workers today rejected the management's proposal to stop striking in exchange for being paid one overdue salary and they will continue their strike until they are given three overdue salaries or the company goes into official receivership.

A representative of the striking workers, Djurdja Krnjak, told Hina that the decision on ending the strike depended on the meeting with Mitak.

Kamensko workers have not received their salaries for five months now, and their management has not been paying their pension and health insurance contributions and taxes for two years.

The striking women do not expect the employer to give them their overdue salaries and they believe that they will be able to collect their claims only after the company goes into official receivership.

The general strike at Kamensko was organised on Wednesday morning by the national union of workers in the textile, footwear, rubber and leather industries.

Meanwhile, union representatives have distributed to the workers certificates which they are to show at social welfare centres in order to receive a one-off allowance of around 1,000 kuna.
