ZAGREB, July 11 (Hina) - The trial of Rahim Ademi and Mirko Norac, Croatian Army generals charged with war crimes committed during the 1993 Operation "Medak Pocket", continued with the reading of documents at the Zagreb County Court on Wednesday.

The documents in question were mostly orders and reports concerning the liberation operation "Medak Pocket". The indictment, which was taken over from the Hague war crimes tribunal, charges Norac and Ademi with being responsible for crimes against Serb civilians and the random shelling of Serb villages during the operation.

Both are charged according to command responsibility. Norac is described in the indictment as commander of the Ninth Guard Motorised Brigade and of Sector 1, while Ademi is described as acting commander of the Gospic Military District.

Unlike on Tuesday, when Norac's defence attorneys raised the issue of credibility of a document describing Norac as commander of Sector 1, none of the documents read out today was disputable.

Norac's attorney Zeljko Olujic again dismissed claims by Ademi's attorneys that he was trying to shift the blame onto their client. "We are not accusing anyone. The defence of General Norac is based on the assertion that crimes did not occur in his area of responsibility, and if they did, it was collateral damage. We are not shifting responsibility because we have stated that our client is not guilty," Olujic said.

Olujic also said that Ademi's attorneys were acting as prosecutors because they believe that there are elements of criminal responsibility in the case.

"We will prove that General Norac is innocent of the charges," Olujic said.
