ZAGREB, June 25 (Hina) - Representatives of Croatian Serbs have discussed the position of Serbs in Croatia with Serbian President Boris Tadic, the Serb National Council (SNV) said on Monday.

SNV president Milorad Pupovac and Independent Democratic Serb Party (SDSS) president Vojislav Stanimirovic met Tadic in Zagreb on Sunday, on the fringes of a Southeast Europe energy summit.

"We supported his efforts towards the establishment of good Croatia-Serbia relations, thanking him for his aspiration to assume, as Serbia's president, responsibility for the crimes which members of the Serb people committed against members of the Croatian people in the last war," the SNV said in a statement.

The talks touched upon "the trials and arrests for war crimes which recently have been frequent and which cause insecurity among Serbs in Croatia, but also among those wishing to return," the SNV said, adding that Stanimirovic and Pupovac asked Tadic and his cabinet to see to it "that only those who committed crimes be tried and not those who have nothing to do with crimes".

The talks also addressed the need for Serbia to contribute to the development of parts of Croatia to which Serbs are returning.
