Putin met his Serbian counterpart Boris Tadic in Zagreb's Westin Hotel after a regional energy summit.
"Our position is that conditions should be created for the stability of the region; those conditions should take into account the interests of all sides and be based on international law," Putin said.
Serbian President Tadic said he highly appreciated Russia's position and reiterated that Serbia would not accept Kosovo's independence.
"Serbia advocates a compromise solution, meaning respect for international law and dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina," Tadic said, adding that discussions about Kosovo's independence were dangerous for the stability of the region and the entire Europe.
Earlier in the day, Putin and Tadic took part in the Southeast Europe Energy Summit that gathered eight heads of state from countries in the region and Russia.
