The event is taking place in Osijek because the city is located in a region with plenty of raw material that can be used as renewables, the vice president of the Croatian Chamber of the Economy, Vesna Trnokop Tanta, told a press conference.
She said renewables were the future not only of developed European countries, which had made significant headway in this field, but of Croatia as well, which, by using them, could greatly help the development of its economy and environmental protection.
By signing the Kyoto Protocol, Croatia has committed to gradually increasing its use of renewables to five per cent from 2008 to 2012.
Agriculture and forestry in particular may use renewables due to about 2.7 million hectares of forests and about one million hectares of farmland, the press were told.
