ZAGREB, May 15 (Hina) - Croatian Prime Minister Ivo Sanader has dismissed a map on the Croatian-Slovene border compiIed by a Slovene opposition MP as a farcical map and added that he expected the Slovene government to distance itself from the map.

The leader of the Slovene National Alliance (SNZ), Marjan Podobnik, on Monday presented his map of the border between the two neighbours, claiming that there were eight unresolved points. Podobnik said that Slovenia had lost some parts of its territory during the arbitrary identification of borderlines in the former Yugoslav federation. He referred to parts of Istria, Zumberak and Medjimurje, and also asked Croatia to give Slovenia the entire bay of Piran and access to open seas. Otherwise, Slovenia should hold a referendum against Croatia's entry into the European Union, Podobnik said yesterday.

Answering questions during his visit to the Petar Zrinski military academy in Zagreb on Tuesday, Sanader rejected Podobnik's map, adding that such a map stood no chance and that he expected the Janez Jansa cabinet to distance itself from that map.

Sanader said that Slovenia could not jeopardise Croatia's EU entry bid and that such a move would not be in the interest of that country.

Sanader said that Slovene Prime Minister Janez Jansa was one of those who had been trying to find a solution to the border disputes.

"I think that there is enough political will in Slovenia to make a joint decision to go before an international judicial institution and contribute to efforts to solve this outstanding issue," the Croatian premier said.

Croatian President Stjepan Mesic on Monday evening also rejected the Slovene politician's ultimatum and map.

Mesic said that the border line between Croatia and Slovenia had been determined by the Badinter Commission.
