In the letter that was delivered on Wednesday to Nikola Spiric, the chairman of the Bosnian Council of Ministers, and that would be forwarded to other officials, Rehn recalls that a week before leaders of European Union member-states okayed a prepared text of a Stabilisation and Association Agreement and that the document is ready to be initialled.
However, the SAA has not yet been initialled as Bosnian politicians are still not capable of reaching agreement on the police reform and of ensuring full cooperation with the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia.
Rehn also expressed concern over what he described as a deteriorating political situation in Bosnia and the revival of a nationalistic rhetoric.
If politicians in Bosnia want their country to conclude contractual relations with the EU, they will have to take drastic and urgent actions, the EU commissioner said, according to the Dnevni Avaz daily.
