ZAGREB, May 9 (Hina) - The Croatian government on Wednesday opened a toll-free phone service called Halo EU, where citizens will be able to obtain information about the EU, Croatia's accession negotiations, etc.

We have had a number of information channels on European integration, but surveys have shown that there is an additional interest in those issues, Prime Minister Ivo Sanader said launching the Halo EU phone service on the occasion of Europe Day, May 9.

The government has also prepared a handbook with some 500 most frequently asked questions and answers about European integration. Citizens who contact the Halo EU service by dialling 0800 622 622 will receive answers in the shortest possible time. If the operator does not have a complete answer, the caller will be contacted later by phone or via e-mail and receive an answer.

PM Sanader said that a study on the benefits and possible drawbacks of EU membership would soon be prepared and presented to the public.

He reiterated that there was no EU state wishing to leave the bloc or a country whose citizens were not living better than before they joined the EU.

He also repeated that Croatia would not lose its national and cultural identity by joining the bloc.
