ZAGREB, May 5 (Hina) - A former director of the Zagreb branch of the Caritas foundation, Jelena Brajsa, has been acquitted of charges concerning the obstruction of the evidence procedure, attorney Silvije Degen told Hina on Friday evening.

The Zagreb County Court dismissed as unfounded an appeal of the Prosecution's Office against the ruling of the Municipal Court acquitting Brajsa of charges that she had been hiding a diary of a cook in the Children's Home in Brezovica, thus obstructing the evidence procedure.

The County Court acquitted Brajsa of the charges, thus making the the ruling final.

A court of first instance found cook Mijo Penic guilty of raping a 25-year old mentally retarded employee of the Brezovica Children's Home. Brajsa was relieved of her duties after the incident, allegedly due to health reasons. An investigation was launched against her on suspicion of tax evasion and allegedly damaging the state budged by 2.7 million kuna.
