During talks, the two officials expressed satisfaction with bilateral relations, noting that several agreements were being prepared to complete the legal framework for cooperation between the two countries.
Lillikas said he was happy that Mesic would make an official visit to Cyprus this summer and agreed with the Croatian president that more efforts should be made to promote economic cooperation between the two countries.
The talks also focused on the situation in Southeast Europe, particularly on the process of determining the final status of Kosovo.
Lillikas confirmed his country's support for Croatia's accession to the European Union, estimating that this could happen by 2010. He stressed that each candidate for EU membership should be evaluated on its own merit.
Lillikas thanked Croatia for supporting the UN resolutions aimed at restoring the unity of Cyprus, the statement said.
