ZAGREB, April 17 (Hina) - The head of the Social Democratic Party
(SDP) team in charge of preparations for the upcoming parliamentary elections
said on Tuesday that the election of a new party president or candidate for the
post of prime minister would cause no disturbances in the party because the
SDP had only one goal this year - to defeat "the incompetent and unsuccessful
HDZ". "The SDP has only one goal this year - to beat at
parliamentary elections the HDZ, which was unable to improve living standards
and which is responsible for the impoverishment of workers and pensioners, and
to replace Sanader's government that is involved in a series of corruption
scandals," Linic told reporters in the SDP headquarters before a meeting of the
party team in charge of preparations for elections and coordinators in
individual constituencies.
Linic underlined that the SDP would not be destabilised by different
interpretations of problems or forecasts regarding the election of the future
party leadership, following the recent resignation of Ivica Racan as party
chairman.
