Pusic said this was the first time Croatia was hosting a session of one of the highest bodies of one of Europe's three largest parties, and thanked Europe's Liberals on the trust shown in Croatia.
A welcome speech was also delivered by another ELDR vice president, Romanian Prime Minister Calin Popescu Tariceanu, who briefed those attending about the functioning of the European Union from Romania's point of view as a new member country.
Tomorrow, Europe's Liberals are scheduled to hold a conference called "European Union and Southeast Europe - Experiences". Addresses are expected from Neyts-Uytterbroeck, Pusic and Croatian President Stjepan Mesic.
The HNS has been a member of the ELDR since 2001. Pusic was elected one of the ELDR's vice presidents last year.
