The committee has 12 members, six from Croatia and six from the European Union.
Croatia is represented by representatives of employers, trade unions and civil society, and government officials as observers.
The EU is represented by members of the European Economic and Social Committee, an EU advisory body which represents the interests of different economic and social interest groups and which is seen as a bridge between the EU and civil society.
The meeting was attended by the Croatian State Secretary for European Integration, Marija Pejcinovic-Buric, who highlighted the importance of the committee as a forum for institutional cooperation between representatives of social partners and civil society.
Addressing the meeting, she said that Croatia regarded the establishment of the committee as another step in getting closer to EU membership.
