ZAGREB, March 4(Hina) - Only seven of Croatia's 21 countries generated foreign trade surplus last year, the Central Bureau of Statistics said last week.
ZAGREB, March 4(Hina) - Only seven of Croatia's 21 countries generated foreign trade surplus last year, the Central Bureau of Statistics said last week.

Croatia's exports in 2006 amounted to USD10.37 billion, while imports stood at nearly USD21.5 billion.

The City of Zagreb accounted for close to 37 per cent of all Croatian exports in 2006 -- in excess of USD3.8 billion -- and close to 58 per cent of all imports -- USD12.45 billion.

Zagreb's deficit in 2006 was in excess of USD8.6 billion, accounting for 77.5 per cent in Croatia's total foreign trade deficit, which reached over USD11.11 billion last year.

Among the counties which generated a surplus, Osijek-Baranja County registered the highest -- close to USD90.85 million. This county's exports last year were USD576.48 million, up 7.8% from 2005, while imports went up 11.8% to USD485.6 million.

Sisak-Moslavina County's foreign trade surplus in 2006 was USD80.5 million. Exports went up 5.3% from 2005 to USD523.4 million, while imports went up 3.2% to nearly USD443 million.

Virovitica-Podravina County's foreign trade surplus in 2006 was USD55.11 million. Exports went up 31.4% to USD142.2 million, while imports went up 25.2% to USD87 million.

Pozega-Slavonia County's exports last year were USD108 million, up 21.3% from the previous year, while imports went up 26.7% to USD77.6 million, generating a USD30.4 million foreign trade surplus.

Varazdin County's surplus was USD23.6 million, with exports going up 26.7% to USD682.4 million, while imports went up 8.3% to USD658.8 million.

The lowest foreign trade surplus was generated by Lika-Senj County (USD245,000) and Koprivnica-Krizevci County (USD150,000).

Zadar County's foreign trade surplus was USD26.3 million, generating the highest export growth in relation to 2005, namely 39.9% to USD187.4 million, while imports grew 8.9% to

USD213.7 million.

Only Karlovac County generated a drop in exports, by 4.1% to below USD189.5 million. In 2005, it was among the counties that generated a surplus in foreign trade.
