These figures show that 696 million euros of FDI refer to retained profits, 665.7 to ownership investments, while the remaining 394 million were other types of investment.
Investments in banking services were dominant in the structure of ownership investments in the first nine months of 2006, amounting to 789.4 million euros.
Investments in the production of food and drinks in the first three quarters of 2006 amounted to 189.1 million euros. This primarily refers to investments made by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), which paid 110 million euros for 8.33 percent of shares in the Agrokor food concern.
The majority of FDIs in the period between 1993 and late September 2006 was made in the banking sector (over 3.3 billion euros). The post and telecommunication sector follows with 1.59 billion, the chemical industry with 961.3 million and the production of petroleum products with 543.8 million.
HNB figures for the past 13 years show domination of investments from European Union countries and the United States. Austria leads with 2.95 billion euros, Germany follows with 2.13 billion, France with 1.16 billion, the United States with 1.14 billion and Italy with slightly over a billion euros.
Direct investments by Croatian companies abroad in last year's first three quarters amounted to 98 million euros, and 1.81 billion since 1993.
