Exports go up 15.6, imports 13.5 pct on annual level in November

ZAGREB, Jan 3 (Hina) - Croatian exports in the first 11 months of 2006 amounted to HRK54.4 billion or USD9.3 billion, while imports stood at HRK114.7 billion or USD19.6 billion, according to temporary figures released by the Central Bureau of Statistics on Wednesday.

Expressed in euros, Croatian exports in said period amounted to 7.4 billion, while imports were 15.6 billion.

Croatia's foreign trade deficit at the end of November was HRK60.3 billion or USD10.3 billion or EUR8.2 billion. The export-import ratio was 47.4 per cent.

The annual growth rate of Croatia's exports at the end of last November, expressed in the kuna, was 15.6 per cent, while imports went up 13.5 per cent. Expressed in US dollars, exports grew at the rate of 17.2 and imports at the rate of 15.1 per cent.

The foreign trade deficit grew at the rate of 13 per cent when expressed in kunas and 14.4 per cent in dollars.

European Union countries remain Croatia's chief foreign trade partner, accounting for 64.2 per cent of Croatian exports (nearly USD6 billion) and nearly 65 per cent of imports (USD12.7 billion).

Italy remains Croatia's number one trade partner. Croatian exports there exceeded USD2.1 billion, a growth of 22.9 per cent, while imports from Italy exceeded USD3.2 billion, a growth of 19 per cent.

Croatian exports to Bosnia and Herzegovina in the first 11 months of 2006 amounted to more than USD1.18 billion, up five per cent, while exports to Germany went up 16.7 per cent to USD976.18 million.

Croatian imports from Germany amounted to USD2.84 billion, up 13 per cent from November 2005, while imports from Russia were USD1.99 billion, an increase of 30.9 per cent.
