Vanity Fair runs article on female heads of state or government, including Kosor

WASHINGTON, July 5 (Hina) - Vanity Fair, US women's monthly magazine, gave a list of 11 female heads of state or government in its edition for July. The list includes Croatia's Prime Minister Jadranka Kosor.

Making the list according to chronology of when they came into office, the magazine put the Croatian premier at the 6th place. It reports that Kosor entered the politics in 1995 as a deputy in the national parliament and that she became the first female prime minister in Croatia after her predecessor resigned last year.

In the article headlined "Get to Know Your Female World Leaders" the magazine reports that "last week alone, two women assumed head-of-state duties: Mari Kiviniemi was elected prime minister of Finland on Tuesday, and Julia Gillard was named prime minister of Australia last Thursday, after her unpopular boss, Kevin Rudd, stepped down."

The list is topped by German Chancellor Angela Merkel who assumed office in 2005.

She is followed by Presidents, Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf of Liberia and Christina Fernandez de Kirchner of Argentina.

Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Wazed and her Icelandic counterpart Johanna Siguraardottir follow at the fourth and fifth place.
