NEW YORK, June 5 (Hina) - The European Union should take a
position on the current developments in relation to Slovenia's six-month
blockade of Croatia's EU accession negotiations due to the two countries'
border dispute, Croatian Prime Minister Ivo Sanader said in New York on
Thursday, recalling that his country had agreed to the latest compromise
solution proposed by European Enlargement Commissioner Olli Rehn and that
Zagreb holds Slovenia's amendments to Rehn's proposal unacceptable.
"The EU must face it and must make a conclusion. If no model is found for
lifting the blockade of Croatia's negotiations, then Slovenia is going to find
itself in a very difficult situation when it comes to its international
reputation given that it has been obstructing Croatia (EU talks) for six months
for bilateral reasons, and this is not the European practice or standards,"
Sanader said in response to questions asked by a Slovenian News Agency (STA)
correspondent in the USA.
Earlier in the day Sanader addressed the UN Security Council on the
topic of Croatia's cooperation with the Internaitonal Criminal Tribunal for the
former Yugoslavia (ICTY).
