The Slovenian media reported that just before the start of Thursday's meeting of EU transport ministers in Brussels, European Commissioner for Transport, Antonio Tajani, said that the European Commission expected that weekly vignettes should not be above EUR 10.
Slovenia has announced a price of EUR 15 for road toll stickers for a week and a price between 30 and 35 euros for monthly vignettes.
Earlier this month, Austrian Transport Minister Doris Bures sent a letter to Tajini with complaints about high prices of Slovenian road toll stickers, the Austrian APA news agency reported also on Thursday.
Slovenia insists that the determination of road sticker prices is within its remit, and is expected to decide on the prices next week.
The vignettes for shorter periods are being introduced after criticism from the European Commission that travellers in transit through Slovenia are discriminated against because they have to buy annual or six-month vignettes just to pass through the country. Last year annual and six-month vignettes were introduced.
