ZAGREB/BOSTON, June 21 (Hina) - South Korea tops the Global Broadband Household Penetration rankings with 95 percent of its households accessing the Internet via broadband in 2008, and Croatia is put in the 42nd place, according to a report published by the analyst firm Strategy Analytics in Boston.

"South Korea"s dominance in broadband penetration is attributable in part to its highly urbanized population, as well as to the existence of a comprehensive government-backed broadband policy," reads the report on the rankings including 58 leading countries worldwide.

South Korea is followed by Singapore (88 percent of its population having access to the Internet via broadband), the Netherlands (85 percent).

Denmark, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Israel, Switzerland, Canada and Norway are among the top ten on this list.

Croatia finishes 43rd with 23 percent. Its western neighbour Slovenia is put in the 21st place (58 percent) just below the United States with 60 percent.
