Human Rights Ombudsman supports Pride Parade

ZAGREB, June 18 (Hina) - Human Rights Ombudsman Jurica Malcic on Friday publicly supported the organisers of the Pride Parade, which will be held in Zagreb on Saturday, for the ninth consecutive year.

The ombudsman stated in a press release, however, that he was concerned about an announced counter-parade and "incorrect and homophobic allegations" made by the HCSP nonparliamentary party, which will organise the anti-gay parade.

In his capacity as the central authority for countering discrimination and promoting human rights, the Human Rights Ombudsman expressed public support to the Pride Parade organisers in order to make the public more sensitive and promote values of the civilised society such as tolerance and the right to be different, nonviolence, and eradication of prejudices towards the LGBT community.

Malcic called on the police to take all measures to ensure public order and peace against the backdrop of the announced anti-gay parade.
