In 2009, the Office of the Gender Equality Ombudswoman processed a total of 919 cases.
Lukac Kortnik called for the adoption of standardised procedure in the medical treatment of women victims of violence.
She expressed concern at a rising number of women killed in domestic violence.
She also warned about a high share of women in the unemployed population as well as about lower wages to women workers.
The ombudswoman said that women were underrepresented in the managing structure in public and state-owned companies as well as in posts of state secretaries.
For instance, Croatia has 60 state secretaries and only 13 of them are women.
Furthermore, men make up 88.46 percent of people sitting on managing boards of state-owned companies.
