The facility, the equipment of which was financed by the US Embassy in Sarajevo, was opened in honour of his father.

This reading room is an important step forward to change things, It is a place for all students from all ethnic groups, a place where they can together study and exchange their ideas, said Martin Luther King III.

He expressed hope that Stolac which he described as a divided town would change and pointed to the role of education in making friends among peoples.
