ZAGREB, 23 Feb (Hina) - According to Eurostat data for 2023, Croatia stands out as the safest country in the European Union, Interior Minister Davor Božinović announced on X on Sunday.

"This is yet another international study highlighting the high level of security and the effectiveness of the measures we are implementing in Croatia," he said.

He noted that only 1.2% of people at risk of poverty in Croatia reported experiencing crime, violence or vandalism in their neighbourhood, the lowest percentage in the EU.

For those not at risk of poverty, the figure stands at 1.5%, also the lowest in the Union.

Eurostat data for 2023 shows that 10% of people in the EU reported experiencing crime, violence or vandalism in their neighbourhood, with the percentage being higher among those at risk of poverty.

A similar trend was observed among those not at risk of poverty. The highest percentage of reported crime, violence or vandalism was in Greece (20.2%), the Netherlands (16.1%) and Bulgaria (14.6%), while the lowest was in Croatia (1.5%), Slovakia (2.4%) and Lithuania (2.5%).
