HGSS personnel training Chinese rescuers in China

ZAGREB, 16 Dec (Hina) - Six members of the Croatian Mountain Rescue Service (HGSS) have travelled to China to train local rescuers, further demonstrating their global excellence, the HGSS announced on Monday.

The training for Chinese rescuers will run until 22 December in Liu Ku, Yunnan Province, on the Nujiang River. It will focus on swift water and flood rescue techniques, vessel handling, and the administration of first aid in non-urban environments.

This initiative continues the successful collaboration between the HGSS and Chinese services that began in 2018.

The advanced course includes three experienced rescuers from Beijing, while the basic course is attended by 14 professional firefighters from Liu Ku and four members of the Beijing rescue service. A key role is played by the Beijing Boat Legend Water Rescue Team, led by Jin Shaohui, whose cooperation with the HGSS has been ongoing since 2018.

The training is led by instructors from the HGSS Swift Water and Flood Rescue Commission and one instructor from the HGSS Medical Rescue Commission. Along with technical rescue skills, they are sharing knowledge on organising operations in extremely challenging conditions, such as those found along the Nujiang River.

At the end of the programme, the instructors and participants will also take part in organising safety measures for the International Nujiang River Competition. This event, which includes three different disciplines, serves as preparation for the upcoming Asian Wild Water Kayak and Canoe Championship.

"The HGSS's presence in China is yet another testament to the expertise and reputation of this organisation on a global scale, as well as its commitment to sharing knowledge with colleagues worldwide," said Rene Tonkli, head of the HGSS Swift Water and Flood Rescue Commission.
