Croatian association providing support to over 7,000 Rwandan children

ZAGREB,  9 Dec (Hina) - Members of the NGO called the "Putokaz za Afriku" ("Signpost for Africa") have recently visited Rwanda for the seventh consecutive year, where they help children in 11 schools and nine kindergartens, and through donations and sponsorship programmes, they have provided aid to over 7,000 children.

The association was founded in 2018 in the eastern Croatian city of Slavonski Brod, and its founders are Slavica Gašparović from that city and Elizabeth Suzana Kozina from Klis, southern Croatia..

Their trip to Africa this yer has been the pinnacle of humanity – the association equipped a house to assist girls who found themselves in difficult situations at a young age, often without parental care. The purchase and renovation of the house were fully financed by the targeted donations from sponsors and other donors.

Elizabeth Suzana Kozina has told Hina that over the past three years, the association has focused on purchasing, completely renovating, and furnishing a house to assist girls in need.

"This is our largest project in Africa so far fully funded by the targeted donations from our sponsors and other donors. We have submitted the necessary documents for the permit and the start of the house's operation, and we are now waiting for the first girls who will have secured clothing, food, and hygiene supplies in the house," says Kozina.

"When I first set foot in Africa, I saw children who were smiling and dancing even though they had almost nothing. Their eyes told a story of struggle, hope, and the incredible strength of community. Africa has taught me that life is not about what you have, but about what you share," she said.

Muhanga District Deputy Governor Mugabo Gilbert said in a press release that the Croatian association's work for the education system in the region is important.

"The support from the Putokaz za Afriku association has made it possible for as many as 7,323 children to continue their education despite the poor financial conditions in their families. The nutrition program organized by the association ensures that the children have at least one quality meal a day, which has a significant impact on their education," says Gilbert.

Additional information about possibility of joining the association and providing assistance to Rwandan children can be found at www.putokazzaafriku.com.
