The most purchased items will be clothing and footwear, electronics, and cosmetic products, with discounts typically ranging from 20% to 50%, the HGK said in a press release on Thursday.
"Statistics confirm that on Black Friday, some consumers buy more than usual, so we expect increased spending tomorrow as well. Since we are all looking for more affordable products and services, it is very important to pay attention to the authenticity of the offer," said Maja Bogović, Director of the Retail Division at the HGK.
She emphasised the importance of verifying details when shopping online, particularly with foreign-based online stores. "For purchases from unknown websites, we recommend paying cash on delivery whenever possible, as well as checking contacts, addresses, and the possibility of returning products," Bogović advised.
The HGK also expects a rise in spending for the Christmas and New Year holidays. In December last year, retail spending in Croatia was €3.1 billion, and this year it might exceed €3.3 billion.
The average amount spent in stores in 2023 was €14.35, while this year to the end of October it increased to €15.47, marking a 7.78% rise.
