The drawing is attributed to Croatian Baroque painter Federik Benković, and will be stored in the HAZU Graphics Department. The International Trust for Croatian Monuments bought it at an auction in the United Kingdom.
Lady Jadranka Njerš Beresford-Peirse was born in Croatia, but spent most of her life in the United Kingdom. She and her husband, Sir Henry Grant de la Poer Beresford-Peirse, founded the International Trust for Croatian Monuments in 1991 in response to the enormous damage done to Croatian landmarks, museums and heritage during the Serbian aggression against Croatia.
The Foundation's first donor was the present King Charles III of the United Kingdom, and the funds were invested in the renovation of the HAZU's Arboretum in Trsteno near Dubrovnik. He also wrote an appeal to save Croatian cultural heritage.
In June this year, King Charles III awarded the title of MBE - Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire to Jadranka Njerš Beresford-Peirse for more than 30 years of dedicated work on promoting relations between the UK and Croatia, philanthropy, and protecting Croatian cultural heritage.
