Announcing the reconstruction project, Mayor Mato Franković said on Thursday that it will cost €290,000 and the funds will be ensured from the city budget.
These Baroque stairs dating back to the 18th century are just off Gundulić Square and lead up to the Church of St. Ignatius and the 17th-century Jesuit College. They were designed by Italian architect Pietro Passalacqua and are reminiscent of the famous Spanish Steps in Rome on the Piazza di Spagna.
The venue has been used for productions of plays and various music performances during the Dubrovnik Summer Festival.
The reconstruction is expected to be completed by next spring, said the mayor.
