Firefighters from Chilean "Dalmacia" society to cooperate with colleagues from Peru

ZAGREB,  9 Sept (Hina) - Chile, where there are an estimated 200,000 inhabitants of Croatian origin, has a firefighting society called "Compañía Croata de Bomberos Dalmacia N°5 de Chile" which was founded 150 years ago by Dalmatian immigrants.

This society, based in the seaport of Iquique, was established by immigrants who arrived in Chile from the Croatian islands of Brač, Hvar, Vis, Korčula and from the coastal towns of Dubrovnik and Omiš.

Recently, a delegation of this firefighting society, which is now led by director Jorge Mollo Oyanedel, travelled to Peru to boost its cooperation with the "Cuerpo General de Bomberos Voluntarios del Perú" (CGBVP) firefighting society and to discuss rescue cooperation in the region of the Andes.

The Peruvian government has stated that the two societies had discussed topics of common interest and possibilities for cooperation.

"Compañía Croata de Bomberos Dalmacia N°5 de Chile" celebrated its 150th anniversary two months ago, and the local mayor and Croatia's Ambassador Mira Martinec attended the ceremonies.
