24 foreign police officers arrive in Split-Dalmatia County, 16 in Istria

ZAGREB, 3 July (Hina) - The police in the coastal cities of Split and Pula  presented at separate news conferences on Wednesday and Tuesday respectively members of foreign police forces who will be helping them this summer in communication and cooperation with visitors from their respective countries.

This summer, the police in Split-Dalmatia County will be assisted by 24 police officers from Poland, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Italy, the Netherlands, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Germany and France.

In the northern Adriatic region of Istria, 16 police officers from Austria, Germany, Hungary, Poland, Slovenia, Italy, France and Serbia will be be assisting their Croatian colleagues in Umag, Rovinj, Poreč and Pula.

Unlike their uniformed colleagues, members of the Serbian crime police will take part in activities aimed at establishing closer police cooperation and support in the prevention of crime, notably people smuggling, slavery, organised prostitution and illegal migrations, drug abuse, and different types of fraud and theft.

This summer, more than 90 foreign police officers will be staying in Croatia, participating in this originally Croatian project, launched in 2006. So far, around 1,100 police officers from more than 20 countries have participated in it.

The main purpose of the project is the promotion of communication and cooperation between Croatian police and foreign visitors so they can feel as safe and as well as possible in Croatia.
