Split hospital helipad certified

ZAGREB, 2 July (Hina) - The renovated helipad of the Split Clinical Hospital Centre (KBS Split) has become Croatia's first certified hospital helipad for day and night flights complying with international standards, the hospital said on Monday.

The helipad obtained an international operating licence on 28 June after the Croatian Civil Aviation Agency determined that it had met all the relevant international regulations.

"In the system of care for patients in life-threatening conditions, the KBC Split helipad is the most important and busiest helipad in Croatia, with around 500 flights a year, notably for the transport of patients from islands," the KBC Split said.

It is the only helipad for the transport of babies in critical condition, which was launched in 2002 by the hospital's incumbent director, Dr Julije Meštrović, at the time head of the ICU unit for children.

The reconstruction of the helipad started in October 2023 and was completed in March this year. The reconstruction project amounted to more than €855,000.
