Milanović gives reception on occasion of Croatian Army Day

ZAGREB, 28 May (Hina) - President and Armed Forces Commander in Chief Zoran Milanović on Tuesday held a reception on the occasion of Croatian Army Day, Croatian Ground Army Day and the army's 33rd anniversary.

Today, we talked about the state and challenges in the defence system, the status and capabilities of the Croatian Armed Forces. We have said enough and I think we should stop there and start dealing with problems and challenges. There are good things, but there are also situations that are challenging and that primarily concern people, because - without people and without soldiers, there is no army, said the president.

In his speech, Milanović said that the solutions are not simple and require a national agreement.

President Milanović agreed that the army also needed financial resources, noting that it should be seen what could be done.

We are part of a defence alliance and a community where we help each other and, in case of a major crisis, we stand for each other. However, first of all, we must look at our needs, our country and our homeland, because the most important thing for us is the defence of Croatia and its territorial integrity, he said.

At the reception, Milanović awarded a total of 10 decorations.
