Int'l speedcubing competition held in Ogulin

ZAGREB, 29 April (Hina) - An open competition in speedcubing brought together 75 competitors from a number of countries in Gospić on Sunday, with 15-year-old Taiyo Berčič of Slovenia winning the first place, his compatriot Marcel Ručigaj second and David Vujasić of Croatia third.

The competition in solving the cubic puzzle, invented 50 years ago by Hungarian sculptor and professor of architecture, Ernő Rubik, was organised by the Speedcubing Croatia association, and it brought together competitors from Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Slovenia, Serbia, Hungary, Ukraine, Poland, Germany and the Netherlands.

The winner Berčič solved the cube in the finals with an average time of 8.68 seconds.

David Vujasić, a 25-year-old psychologist, holds the national record in speedcubing, his fastest single solve taking 5.55 seconds. Most of the competitors at the Ogulin event were school-goers, the youngest competitor was 7 and the oldest 65.
