Zagreb short-listed among most desirable filming locations

ZAGREB, 12  April (Hina) - Zagreb has been short-listed among the most desirable filming locations at this year's Global Production Awards competition, organised by Screen International, one of the three film magazines with the largest circulation in the world.

Zagreb was short-listed in the City of Film category along with Bristol (UK), Limerick (Ireland), Sofia (Bulgaria) and Tulsa (US).

Mia Pećina Drašković, head of the Zagreb Film Office, said that this is already a great success and a great additional promotion of the city, adding that they are looking forward to the announcement of the winner during the Cannes Film Festival.

"We also send a big thank-you to the Croatian producers with whom we are cooperating very well on the promotion of Zagreb and who have greatly helped us to put Zagreb on the film map of the world again," she said.

The winners in all categories will be announced at an awards ceremony in Cannes on 20 May.

Last year, with 455 days of filming in Zagreb, was at the level of the pre-pandemic years. The filming of the Hollywood film "Canary Black" continued, which will be extremely important for the promotion of the city because for the first time Zagreb is "playing itself" throughout the film, the Zagreb Film Office said in a press release.

Among major international projects that were filmed in Zagreb are the third season of the British series "Hotel Portofino", the German series "Der Kroatien Krimi", the Finnish series "Ride Out" and the rock musical "O'Dessa" (Searchlight Pictures). Also shot were commercials for prominent companies such as McDonalds, Pokemon, Porsche and Honda.

In the last few years, Zagreb and Zagreb County have risen in the ranking of the most desirable cities for filming in Croatia, moving up from fourth to second place, right behind Split-Dalmatia County, the press release said.
