About 4,000 persons diagnosed with autism spectrum disorders in Croatia

ZAGREB,  1 April (Hina) - In Croatia, there are about 4,000 persons diagnosed with autism spectrum disorders, according to data provided by the Croatian Public Health Institute (HZJZ), with experts warning that the number of persons being affected by such disorders is on the rise.

World Autism Awareness Day is an internationally recognized day, marked annually on 2 April, and on that occasion the president of the Croatian association for autism, Igor Ružić, has told Hina that it is difficult to establish the exact data of people suffering from autism spectrum disorders due to the difficult process of diagnosing disorders and patients are sometimes wrongly diagnosed as having some of those disorders.

Experts warn about intersectoral gaps and insufficient cooperation of experts from various sectors that can address this issue.

Croatia will mark World Autism Awareness Day on Tuesday by holding a series of events in Zagreb and other cities.
