Rijeka University Hospital's new complex inaugurated

ZAGREB, 2 Feb (Hina) - The Rijeka University Hospital's new complex, worth €158 million and the biggest single government investment in health since Croatia gained independence, was inaugurated in the northern Adriatic city on Friday.

This is a unique case in which such a big project was completed within the deadline and within the budget, which is proof of the economy, efficiency and precision in leading the project, Prime Minister Andrej Plenković said.

In the Rijeka area, he said, he recently also attended the inauguration of road D 403 and the completion of Učka Tunnel's second tube.

Financing has been secured for the Križišće-Žuta Lokva motorway, the lowland railway project is continuing, and all this shows how much we care about the even development of Croatia, he added.

We value Rijeka's unique position, while also improving the quality of health services, Plenković said.

The inauguration of Rijeka University Hospital's new complex is historic and it was entirely financed by the government, Health Minister Vili Beroš said, adding that this government has invested €200 million in the hospital.

The incumbent government has invested over €2.2 billion in Croatian health, he said, adding that intensive work is under way to reduce waiting lists.

Construction on Rijeka University Hospital's new complex began in 2019. The new buildings spread over 70,000 square metres.
