President presents state Charter to Caritas Croatia

ZAGREB, 16 Jan (Hina) - President Zoran Milanović on Tuesday presented the Charter of the Republic of Croatia to Caritas Croatia on the 30th anniversary of its work, saying it is a symbolic recognition of the indelible mark the organisation has left on Croatia's humane image.

"In today's world, which is worse than two years ago and much worse than ten years ago, and we don't know what it will look like in two or three years, organisations such as yours and people like you make a difference," the president said.

Caritas Croatia puts persons in need at the centre of its mission and the Charter draws attention to those in need, said the organisation's president, Varaždin Bishop Božo Radoš.

"Caritas is a big family made first of all by small people who don't have extra, but do have a big heart and help those in a more difficult position. They are our faithful as well as many people of good will in Croatia and our diaspora," he added.

Monsignor Radoš thanked in particular the Croatian companies and state institutions which regularly participate in Caritas programmes.

Caritas Croatia is a charitable institution of the Croatian Bishops’ Conference and the umbrella organisation of a network consisting of 16 Caritas diocesan organizations and the Caritas of the Military Ordinariate of Croatia, including more than 1,400 parishes, in the majority of which the parish Caritas are active thanks to the efforts of volunteers. The primary task of the national Caritas is to coordinate programmes and projects of national importance and organize efforts to collect and distribute aid in emergency situations, such as earthquakes, floods, fires, and armed conflicts.
