Croatian Red Cross launches fundraising drive for Japan quake victims

ZAGREB,  9 Jan (Hina) - Croatia's Red Cross has started collecting financial donations for victims of the 1 January which hit the Japanese peninsula of Noto.

Croatia's Red Cross says that the Japanese Red Cross Society has already been included in the coordination of the response and post-quake relief.

Financial assistance can be paid in Erste&steiermärkische bank on the account: IBAN: HR0524020061500137627, with the reference number: 753, SWIFT CODE: ESBCHR22.

The collected funds will be sent to the Japanese Red Cross Society.

The Japanese Red Cross says on its web site that "as of 16:00 on 8 January, the local government confirmed 168 deaths in Ishikawa prefecture."  On top of this, 323 people in Ishikawa prefecture remain unaccounted for since the magnitude 7.6 earthquake struck the Noto Peninsula in Ishikawa Prefecture on 1 January 2024.

At least 690 people were injured.

More than 1,525 houses are reported to be collapsed/damaged, which brought about 28,301 people remained in 403 evacuation centers, the Japanese Red Cross report.
