ZAGREB, 18 Dec (Hina) - Border police at Stara Gradiška on Sunday rescued 20 foreigners from the Sava river west of Gornji Varoš, Slavonia-Brod County police said on Monday.
The police were assisted by the Croatian Mountain Rescue Service, whose members took the foreign nationals to the river bank by boat. They were taken to a police station and offered medical assistance, food and hot drinks.
The foreigners entered Croatia illegally and the police will take further action under the law on foreigners.
The county police warned of the dangers in crossing the Sava during the winter while attempting to enter the country illegally.
