Croatian Youth Hostel Association marking 70 years of activity

ZAGREB, 25 Nov (Hina) - The Croatian Youth Hostel Association is marking 70 years of activity during which it has constantly promoted and developed tourism and youth travel as well as operating its nine hostels.

The association has hostels in Osijek, Zagreb, Rijeka, Pula, Veli Lošinj, Zadar, Dubrovnik, Samobor and Lovran. All carry the HI (Hostelling International) designation.

The association is a member of the International Youth Hostel Federation (known as Hostelling International), the European Union Federation of Youth Hostel Associations, the European Youth Card Association, and the Croatian Youth Network.

"This year, all hostels, just as tourism in Croatia in total, have done good business, but the physical indicators (arrivals, nights) are still not at the level of 2019. Along with young people, we have tourists of all generations among our guests, individuals and organised groups, and this year the majority have been from Belgium, France and Germany," the association's executive director, Dražen Gečević, has told Hina, adding that foreigners account for 65% of the turnover.

As for the main trends on the hostel market, he underlined the arrival of different age groups, including families, which he attributes to improved accommodation. Hostels no longer provide just rooms with several beds and joint bathrooms, as more and more offer two, three or four-bed rooms with separate bathrooms, as well as breakfast and other services.

The Croatian Youth Hostel Association is marking its 70th anniversary in Osijek today.
