The main commemorative events in tribute to victims of the fall of Škabrnja, in the Dalmatian hinterland, and the eastern city of Vukovar into the hands of the Yugoslav People's Army (JNA ) and Serb rebel forces in mid-November 1991 will be held on Saturday.
18 November is a public holiday in Croatia observed as Remembrance Day for the Victims of the Homeland War and the Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Vukovar and Škabrnja.
According to a list compiled by the Franciscan monastery in Vukovar after collecting data for two years, 2,717 soldiers and civilians were killed during the aggression by the former JNA and Serb paramilitary forces on the town.
In Škabrnja, the war toll was about 85 dead.
Škabrnja was liberated in the August 1995 Operation Storm. Vukovar and Croatia's Danube river region were reintegrated peacefully into Croatia's legal and constitutional order upon the conclusion of the UN-led UNTAES mission on 15 January 1998.
