"Stradun - A Treasure of European Film Culture“ plaque unveiled in Dubrovnik

ZAGREB, 20 Oct (Hina) - Mayor Mato Franković and film producer Boris T. Matić unveiled the European Film Academy plaque in Dubrovnik on Thursday after the city's Stradun street was declared a Treasure of European Film Culture.

The European Film Academy included the Stradun, the main pedestrian street in the historic part of Dubrovnik, among the "Treasures of European Film Culture 2023". There are a total of 41 locations on this list of important locations for European cinematography.

Mayor Franković pointed out that this is a great honour, as well as confirmation of Dubrovnik's excellence and quality. He emphasised the importance of respecting the city's monumental heritage and safeguarding its cultural identity within the bounds of sustainability while continuing to promote Dubrovnik as an open city of world culture.

The mayor said that the former TUP factory will be converted into a small film studio. "We will form a team of film experts who will be on hand to anyone coming to Dubrovnik to film and we will remove any obstacles to their work. We will need to extend this to include the entire county, because films are being shot from Konavle to Korčula."

Producer Boris T. Matić said that European filmmakers recognised the importance of Dubrovnik as a European film destination.

"It's nice that Hollywood films are shot here, but we would like to have more European films as well. And we would also like Dubrovnik to play itself and not just serve as a backdrop for other films," Matić added.
