Cernogoraz had a great start to the finals, hitting all the first 12 targets and taking a lead which he retained until the end. He secured the gold after the 47th target, so the last three were celebratory.
Cernogoraz achieved his greatest success 11 years ago when he became the Olympic winner in London, while this is his first medal from world championships, where his best ranking so far was seventh place.
By winning the world title, Cernogoraz qualified for next year's Olympic Games in Paris.
I am proud of myself, my family, Croatian shooting sports. I worked hard for this, this is a great result for my country. After I secured the Olympic qualifying standards in the final, it was easier for me, Cernogoraz said.
The bronze was won by Kuwait's Khaled Almudhaf with 31 targets hit in the final.
