The regulation on paternity leave envisages the right of fathers of newborns to be on leave of 10 days or 15 days in case of the birth of twins or more children, which can be used in the first 6 months of the child's life.
Compensation for the cost of the parents' salary is fully borne by the state.
Paternity leave is not mandatory, but if a father wants to take it, his employer must allow it or face fines ranging from € 1,330 (HRK 10,000) to € 6,640 (HRK 50,000).
The data provided by the Office show that in terms of the age of fathers, those aged between 32-36 years, were the most frequent users of this right in the first 11 months of its application.
Broken down by region, fathers of newborns in Zagreb top the ranking, and were followed by fathers from the counties of Zagreb, Split-Dalmatia, Osijek-Baranja and Primorje-Gorski Kotar when it comes to the exercise of this right.
