Ultramarathon runners from Croatia arrive in Srebrenica to commemorate victims

ZAGREB, 10 July (Hina) - Four ultramarathon runners from Croatia arrived in Srebrenica on Monday after running the 227-kilometre route to that city in eastern Bosnia and Herzegovina from Vukovar.

This way, ultramarathoners Boban Pantović, Mirsad Softić, Dražen Ćućić and Robert Kasumović joined the commemoration of the 28th anniversary of the genocide against Bosniaks committed in July 1995 by members of the Bosnian Serb army and police.

They ran the ultramarathon along the path from Ovčara in Vukovar, passing through Vinkovci, Brčko and Janja, and reached Srebrenica via Zvornik, arriving at the memorial centre in Potočari, where the central commemoration will be held on Tuesday.

Kasumović, who is also a former member of the Croatian Armed Forces, said that they had once again wanted to honour every innocent victim, both those killed in Ovčara and in Srebrenica, but also in other places where war crimes were committed.

"We are not politicians, but athletes. We want to draw attention so that such things do not happen again and are not forgotten," said Kasumović.
